The 2025 Bugatti Chiron: End of an Era, Peak Performance

A Farewell to the W16 Legend

Bugatti has confirmed that the Chiron line is drawing to a close with the “L’Ultime” edition being the final Chiron.

The L’Ultime is limited – Bugatti capped Chiron production at 500 units.

Power and Performance

Powertrain: It retains the ferocious 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine, now boosted for even higher output.

Output: Approximately 1,600 PS (metric horsepower).

Aerodynamics: The Super Sport version emphasises optimized airflow and high-speed stability via a "long tail" design, revised diffusers and splitters, improved compressor efficiency in the turbos.

Gearbox: The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission has been reworked so that at very high speeds (above ~420 km/h) the shift from 6th to 7th gear is delayed for smoother delivery.

Top Speed & Figures

The top speed is pushed high – though Bugatti limits some models electronically. The Super Sport is claimed to be capable of 440 km/h (≈ 273 mph) in some configurations.

Acceleration remains blisteringly fast: 0-100 km/h in around 2.4 seconds for standard Chiron models.

Design & Aesthetic Touches

Final Edition Styling: The L’Ultime features a special “fading” two-tone paint (French Racing Blue blending into Atlantic Blue) to mark its farewell. Wheels are colour-matched front and rear to the paint fade.

Detail work: Personalised touches such as hand-written names of places & events that helped build the Chiron’s legend since 2016 appear on the bodywork.

Chassis, materials, luxury interior: As expected from Bugatti, top-tier craftsmanship, premium materials, bespoke finishes. Bugatti also emphasizes luxury and comfort even in hyperperformance variants like the Super Sport.

What Sets the 2025 Chiron Super Sport Apart

Because the “Super Sport” variant of the 2025 Chiron (especially in the L’Ultime guise) is the most extreme, here are its standout features:

Feature Improvement / Spec

Engine Power ~1,600 PS — about 100 PS more than previous standard Chirons.
Aerodynamics Redesigned for high-speed, with a focus on lowering drag, increasing downforce, especially in the new long tail version.
Transmission tuning Gears 6 → 7 shift occurs later at extreme speeds; gear ratios refined for top-end stability.
Exclusivity Final edition, limited numbers, unique color schemes, bespoke detailing.

Place in Bugatti’s Lineage and the Road Ahead

After the Chiron, Bugatti is moving into a new chapter with the Tourbillon, which is expected to incorporate hybrid powertrains. The W16 engine era (which started with the Veyron) is coming to a close.

The Super Sport and L’Ultime Chirons act as both a celebration and a swansong—bringing the W16 to its peak in terms of output, engineering, speed, and luxury.

What It Means for Buyers & Enthusiasts

Collector’s Piece: Given the limited number (500) and the special finishing touches of the final model, it’s destined to become a collector’s item.

Performance vs. Everyday Use: Even though it’s a hypercar built for extreme speed, Bugatti retains emphasis on comfort, ride quality, and usability. It'll likely remain more livable than many pure track-focused hypercars.

Price: Extremely high. The Super Sport base is already in the multimillion-euro range. The L’Ultime versions with bespoke extras will command much more.

Pros & Potential Cons

👍 Pros 👎 Cons / Challenges

Ultimate craftsmanship and performance Extremely expensive—both to buy and maintain.
High exclusivity and future value potential Very limited availability; waiting lists and customization times will be long.
Peak performance from the W16 engine, unmatched in its class Fuel consumption, emissions are massive; not very eco-friendly. Limited speed usage in many legal jurisdictions.
Iconic status in automotive history After the Chiron, the shift to hybrid or new powertrains could mean this becomes the last of a kind.

Final Thoughts

The 2025 Bugatti Chiron, especially through its Super Sport / L’Ultime variants, is not just a high-performance machine — it’s a tribute. It’s a final deuce of innovation, speed, luxury, and engineering from the W16 lineage. For enthusiasts, it stands as the pinnacle of what Bugatti could achieve with that engine before turning the page to a new era.

It’s a car built to make a statement, both on the road and in automotive history. Whether you care more about speed stats, design, legacy, or the sheer artistry of it — the final Chiron delivers something toward all of those.
